Lyle & Scott is a Scottish knitwear brand, formerly known for golfing knitwear. It acquired a younger more fashionable following with young 'casuals' in the 1980s. The golden eagle logo has been seen sported by musicians like the Arctic Monkeys, Pete Doherty, Kasabian as well as TV presenters Tim Lovejoy, Dermot O Leary, Max Halliday, Simon Amstell and Steve Jones.

Lyle & Scott was founded in 1874 in the Scottish town of Hawick by William Lyle and Walter Scott and the brand still draws from a 125 year old archive that includes designs by Christian Dior and Michael Kors. The rejuvenation of the brand can be traced back to 2003 with the launch of the ‘Vintage’ collection with its ‘Golden Eagle’ logo which was taken up by a host of indie bands and youth TV presenters. In 2005 following the success of the Vintage range, Lyle & Scott’s first stand-alone store opened in London’s Covent Garden on King Street.

In 2007, the Lyle & Scott Heritage collection was launched, with a more discrete, tonal logo. Celebrities including Tim Lovejoy, Max Halliday, Tom Chambers and Dermot O Leary have worn this.

In early 2009 Lyle & Scott launched the ‘Club’ collection, a golf line aimed at the young golfer. 2009 also saw the launch of the Lyle & Scott e-commerce website www.lyleandscott.com[1] which offers the Lyle & Scott collections to purchase. As of the moment, the e-commerce website contains issues, their customer service department cannot ship packages to the appropriate location.

Lyle & Scott Vintage has now expanded to include an accessories line and the ‘Golden Eagle’ has appeared prominently on the Channel 4 series Skins, which has enhanced its youth following.
